This is what I love to do, probably more than anything. I was born to do just this.

One of my favorite moments is when new parents peel back the blanket and see that little face, it’s equivalent to Christmas morning for me. I just never get tired of it. I love working with newborns…. I love how warm and cozy are…..I love how they sink into your chest or how they fold up in my hands….. I love how sweet and peaceful they are when the sleep…..I love how they gaze around a room, listening for their Momma’s voice…..Sometimes newborn sessions can get messy but then I bring home baby laundry and my house smells like Dreft.

Here are some of the sweet faces I’ve worked with, some recently and some at the end of 2010. My newborn specials continue to go on, I still have opening for 2 more for March!! I recently read a post on why people put off getting their family photo done, 2 reasons….1.) the same old excuse….I don’t like how I look, I hate my hair, I need to lose weight….2.) $$$. Let me address both of those…I love every photo I have of my parents as well as my husband’s family. Have you ever had a day when you just felt …”I was born to do exactly this”? I’ve had several of those moments lately. Babies in the studio gives me a rush like nothing else. I am loving my new studio space, loving the time I’m getting with the babies I’ve had and all sort of other sweet faces. Here’s a quick peak at what I’ve been up to since my last post… Enjoy!

I am going to be a partner in a new studio opening in downtown Rockford. I’m excited. I’m nervous. I’m hoping this is the right thing to do, sometimes I feel sick and I have told so many people that somedays I wake up dry heaving. This is a step I’ve thought about and dreamed about but didn’t know exactly when, where or how. I worry about time & money, hoping there will be enough of both. I wonder if my kids are really at the right ages to make this transition. My son is an amazing drummer but my home office lost its charm the minute his drum set moved in. I love my job & I love my family. I always dreamed of being a stay at home mom. I never dreamed I would have something outside of my family that I would be so passionate about. I’m thankful for all of this…for the roller coaster of emotions, the excitement of a new path, for a family that wants me at home because they love me, but they freely & joyfully permit me to pursue my dreams. I’m thankful for change and for the joy it will bring. Someone said to me…”It must feel like Christmas?!” to which I responded….”No. It feels more like I’m expecting.” I know this feeling. Life as I know it is about to change. I can live in fear of the change or just embrace it & look forward to it. I’ve worked with my partner Mandy for the last few months getting the studio ready, we’ve cleaned, patched & painted. We’ve shopped and decorated, and have taken a lot of deep breaths. We’ve been nesting. Months of getting it ready and do you think I’ve taken a single photo in the studio? NOTHING….until last week. I had gone back and forth on what the first thing I would shoot there would be and it just didn’t happen but then I asked a friend to bring her “expectant self” over to make sure that I can actually work here….and I can. Thank you Melanie for sharing your beautiful belly and the sweet anticipation of what’s to come.

So I had 5 newborns on the schedule for January and here is the last of them…..ta daaaaa! I spent a couple of hours with this 6lb munchkin on Monday and per his mom he has been super sleepy every day, that is until the day I showed up. Even though he was awake for most of our session we did get him settled and snoozy for a few. He is so sweet and tiny and has the cutest little nose I’ve ever seen!! I never get tired of working with and watching a couple handle their first baby , it’s so endearing to me. Listening to them talk to or about their baby, how tenderly they handle their infant or how baffled they are when he does something different (like stay awake for 2 hours) & compare that to a family with their 3rd or 4th baby, well we have totally different story. My oldest son, Spencer, will be 17 next week and it seems like just yesterday that our dream of becoming parents came true….I remember those first days still so clearly.

And seriously, is there anything sweeter than a Dad that just can’t bring himself to cut off his hospital bracelet? Baby love is the best!

Baby Sister….

I recently heard Beth Moore speak and she described herself as someone who gets “drunk on babies”. It was such a light bulb moment for me because that is EXACTLY how I would describe myself. I LOVE infants!!! Between Steve’s family and mine we have had a “baby” for 16 years non-stop. We have a ton of nieces and nephews and I just got my baby “fix” last weekend (and again on Tuesday) with my littlest nephew Dawson. He’s so sweet I just can’t stand it! I’m a baby hog in our family and I seriously keep track of when it’s my turn to hold the baby again. With all of that I have just one more reason to be thankful for my job….being around newborns is just awesome. I love babies, love to look at babies, love to cuddle them and pose them. It’s intoxicating to me!

Meet Macy! Isn’t she the most darling little thing you’ve ever seen? I seriously could not stop staring at this child, she is so gorgeous! If I had to have a “best” friend in my photography business it would, hands down, be Macy’s big sister Ella. She’s so cute, loves to have her picture taken and does so without complaint. She’s amazing and I could brag about her all day. Seeing her with her new sister was so sweet. Ella had no qualms about holding Macy, shifting her around, or sharing her favorite blanket with her. I didn’t even have to ask Ella to smile when she looked at Macy. Once Ella and Macy were positioned the way I wanted them Ella looked down at and lit up at the sight of Macy’s face. It was so sweet. She naturally pulled her up and kissed her. As you can see from the pictures, Ella loves her baby sister. Thanks Mike and Jessica for entrusting me with the special moments in your life. It seems like just yesterday I followed you down the aisle with my camera.

So I sit her racking my brain trying to figure out how to customize this crazy WordPress blog….not an easy task at all! Maybe I’m just slow….I don’t know enough about HTML coding and I’m not even certain that I WANT to know anything about it…I think I’m definitely going to require professional help for this one. I’m excited for 2010, all that it has to offer, looking forward to spring break with my family in 37 days, a busy wedding season and am already booking high school seniors…Christmas will be here before I know it. Hopefully my blog would be “pretty” by then. We’ll see. So today I just had to post an image of sweet little Colton & Brooklynn. 2 is my favorite number, I was born on June 2, I’m a Gemini and I’m just always happier when I have a friend helping me…at the moment, one with blog expertise would be awesome. Stay tuned, shoot me a message I have so much to share….
